About the resort
🏔️ History
A pioneer of Dolomites winter tourism, Alta Badia saw Italy's first chairlift built in Corvara in 1947 using salvaged WWII equipment. Today, it is celebrated for its crucial link in the Sella Ronda circuit, world-class slope-side gastronomy, and the fearsome "Gran Risa" World Cup run.

Late February through March. Longer, sunnier days provide perfect conditions for enjoying the renowned mountain huts (rifugi), while the slopes are slightly less congested.
🚫 Days to avoid
Christmas, New Year's, and February half-term holidays. The Sella Ronda circuit and main hubs around Corvara become massive bottlenecks during these periods.
💡 Community tip
Alta Badia is an intermediate skier's and foodie's paradise. Start early to stay ahead of the Sella Ronda traffic. Consider staying in San Cassiano or La Val for a quieter vibe than Corvara, and don't miss the spectacular "Hidden Valley" (Lagazuoi) run.

🚗 Main access: Alta Badia (Corvara, La Villa, San Cassiano) is in the heart of the Dolomites (South Tyrol). The fastest route from the north (Innsbruck) or south (Verona) is via the Brenner Autobahn (A22). Take the "Bressanone/Val Pusteria" exit and drive along the SS49 to San Lorenzo (near Brunico). From there, head south on the SS244 (Val Badia road), which leads directly to the resort villages after about 30 km.
⚠️ Winter driving: The SS244 climbs the valley steadily without crossing major high-alpine passes (unless coming from other Dolomite valleys). Winter tires and carrying snow chains are legally required in Italy from November to April. Note: If approaching from Venice or Cortina, you must cross mountain passes (like Passo Campolongo or Passo Gardena) which are often snow-covered and can close temporarily.
Local Tips
💡 Sella Ronda connection: One of the biggest perks of Alta Badia is being directly ski-connected to the famous Sella Ronda. You can ski from Corvara to Val Gardena, Arabba, or Val di Fassa without ever taking off your skis or catching a bus.
