About the resort

🏔️ History
Located in the Cantabrian Mountains (Cantabria) and managed by the regional public company, Alto Campoo is a beloved resort central to the history of winter sports in northern Spain. It is famous for its rugged beauty and the striking views from the "Tres Mares" peak, named because water from this peak flows into three different seas: the Atlantic, Cantabrian, and Mediterranean.

☀️ Best days
Any weekday in February or March following a heavy northern storm ("nortada"). Its wide-open, treeless valleys offer spectacular skiing conditions when the snow sets in.

🚫 Days to avoid
Sunny Saturdays when there is good snow. Due to its proximity to highly populated cities like Santander, Bilbao, and Valladolid, the single access road from Reinosa is notorious for suffering massive, hours-long traffic jams.

💡 Community tip
It's a fantastic resort, but its main drawback is inconsistent snow cover due to its strong oceanic influence; you should only plan your trip here at the last minute when the snow reports are solid. For advanced skiers, the red "Cuchillón" run is a thrilling descent. Afterward, stop in the nearby village of Fontibre to enjoy a hearty traditional Cantabrian stew ("cocido montañés").
