About the resort

๐Ÿ”๏ธ History
Opened in 1964 in the Val d'Aran, Baqueira-Beret has established itself as Spain's largest and most prestigious ski resort. Historically famous as the winter destination of the Spanish Royal Family, it blends excellent infrastructure with distinct Aranese culture and high-end gastronomy.

โ˜€๏ธ Best days
January or early February. Benefiting from a unique Atlantic orientation (rare in the Spanish Pyrenees), it receives heavy snowfalls from the north, guaranteeing excellent powder in the depths of winter.

๐Ÿšซ Days to avoid
Christmas, Easter, and the early December national holidays, when the resort and the access roads from Vielha can be overwhelmingly crowded.

๐Ÿ’ก Community tip
The area is split into four sectors. Baqueira is the most classic and steep; Beret is perfect for beginners, families, and afternoon sun; Bonaigua offers the best accessible freeride terrain; and Baciver (the newest sector) provides spectacular views. Make sure to enjoy the incredible "pintxos" in the valley villages after skiing!

๐Ÿš— Main access: From southern Spain and Catalonia, take the N-230 via Lleida and go through the Vielha Tunnel (toll-free). From France, take the A64 motorway, then the N125/N-141 through Pont de Rei.

โš ๏ธ Weekend traffic: On Saturdays and Sundays after 8:30 AM and during the return peak at 4:30 PM, heavy traffic jams form between Vielha and Baqueira 1500. Early departure is highly recommended.

Local Tips

๐Ÿ’ก Winter tires: The N-230 and C-28 (Bonaigua pass) are high-altitude mountain roads. In winter, Spanish law requires carrying snow chains or having winter tires fitted.
