About the resort

🏔️ History
Opening its first lifts in 1982 in the Cerkno Hills and officially launched in 1984, Cerkno is recognized as one of Slovenia's most modern and family-focused ski areas. It has repeatedly won the "Best Slovenian Ski Resort" award thanks to its state-of-the-art lift systems, excellent children's programs, and dedicated learning zones.

☀️ Best days
Clear, cold mid-winter days in January or February. The resort shines when all its fast 4- and 6-seater chairlifts are running, allowing you to cruise wide, scenic pistes woven through beautiful pine forests without waiting in long queues.

🚫 Days to avoid
Unseasonably warm or rainy winter days. Since the top elevation is modest (1,287m), the resort relies heavily on artificial snowmaking, and mild weather degrades the base quickly. High-season school holidays can also feel crowded with ski schools.

💡 Community tip
Make your way to the Lom sector on the eastern edge of the resort via the forest trail—it remains the quietest zone and often hides the best snow. Eat at the Alpska Perla restaurant at the summit, renowned for its panoramic terrace and hearty local stews, and try the local pizzas at Pr' Štruklu in town.

Local Tips

💡 Tip: Cerkno is strongest for groomed piste quality and modern infrastructure; choose cold, clear days to make the most of its broad runs.
