About the resort

🏔️ History
Cerro Catedral Alta Patagonia is the largest ski resort in South America and one of Argentina's most iconic. Founded in 1938 on the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, inside the namesake National Park, it became the benchmark for Argentine skiing. Its name comes from the granite spires that resemble cathedral towers. For decades it has been the epicenter of skiing and snowboarding in the Andean Patagonia, combining modern infrastructure with extraordinary natural beauty.

☀️ Best days
Mid-July to mid-September, when the snow base is most solid. August usually offers the best powder conditions. From September onwards, days are longer and sunnier, ideal for skiing with lake views and enjoying spring skiing in Patagonia.

🚫 Days to avoid
The last two weeks of July and first of August, coinciding with Argentine winter school holidays: lift queues can double or triple. Weekends also see heavy local traffic from Bariloche. Additionally, strong wind days (common in the area) may close the upper-mountain lifts.

💡 Community tip
Staying in San Carlos de Bariloche (20 minutes by car) offers more options and better value than the base village. To avoid queues, arrive before 9:00 AM. If you are after fresh powder, hire a mountain guide: the freeride at La Hoya, Punta Nevada, and the Bowl de las Águilas is spectacular, but requires local knowledge due to avalanche and fog risks. Don't miss the Refugio Lynch at the summit.
