About the resort
🏔️ History
Founded in 1946 from scratch (as a pioneering "ex-nihilo" project in France), Courchevel was specifically designed to optimize the skiing experience. It is the easternmost point of the legendary 3 Valleys (Les 3 Vallées) domain and consists of several villages staggered by altitude. Courchevel 1850 has earned a global reputation as the epitome of extreme luxury skiing, attracting the world's elite.
☀️ Best days
Clear days between January and March. Courchevel's slopes are predominantly north-facing, which gives it the best snow preservation in all of the 3 Valleys. Its incredibly wide, perfectly groomed runs (like the legendary "Combe de la Saulire") offer exceptional carving conditions under a blue sky.
🚫 Days to avoid
Weekends during the Russian or French school holidays in February. The immense demand causes huge crowds at the connections leading to the rest of the valleys (towards Méribel and Val Thorens). Additionally, prices at on-mountain restaurants during peak season are astronomical.
💡 Community tip
To avoid the exorbitant prices and crowds of 1850, stay in Courchevel Moriond (1650) or Courchevel Village (1550). The slopes in Moriond get plenty of afternoon sun, are less crowded, and offer excellent, flowing skiing. If you are an expert, do not leave without trying the mythical and steep black run "Grand Couloir."

⚠️ Chains and traffic: The climb from Moûtiers is winding and steep in parts. Winter tires or snow chains are strictly mandatory. On winter changeover days (Saturdays), traffic can be extremely heavy; allow extra travel time.
