๐๏ธ History
El Colorado is one of Chile's most popular ski resorts and the closest to Santiago, just 46 km from the capital. Located in the Andean pre-Cordillera from 2,430 m elevation, it shares a domain with neighbouring Farellones, together forming the most visited ski area in the country. The resort is notable for its cone-shaped mountain which allows skiing in all directions and makes the most of snow at any time of day. With over 50 km of runs and an extensive lift network, it has the highest lift capacity in Chile.
โ๏ธ Best days
July delivers the best powder conditions; northwest storms bring light, abundant snow. Weekdays are ideal โ far fewer people than weekends. The circular cone orientation always offers a good-snow aspect regardless of the time of day.
๐ซ Days to avoid
Weekends, especially in July and August, are the busiest: long queues at the main gondola access and principal chairlifts can cost hours of skiing. The G-21 road up to the resort can become severely congested on peak weekends. Always check road conditions before heading up.
๐ก Community tip
The combined El Colorado-Farellones pass gives access to both resorts on one ticket, maximising terrain options. Arriving before 8:30 guarantees easy parking and first lifts without queues. The La Virgencilla sector has some of the best red and black runs, usually less crowded than the main area.
