About the resort

🏔️ History
Located in central Hokkaido, Furano is one of Japan's most famous and historic ski resorts, having hosted multiple FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events since the 1970s. Unlike many Japanese resorts that are isolated, purpose-built hotel complexes, Furano is a genuine agricultural town with rich local culture—famous for lavender fields in summer and supreme powder snow in winter.

☀️ Best days
Bitterly cold days in January and February. Because it is located inland (away from the coast), the snow that falls here contains far less moisture than in coastal areas. The result is an incredibly dry, light powder that represents the absolute pinnacle of "Japow".

🚫 Days to avoid
Late December and the New Year holiday period. Crowds surge during national holidays. Also, be aware that while Furano has excellent on-piste skiing, it historically had strict anti-off-piste policies. While they are much more relaxed now, strictly avoid ducking ropes in closed areas unless you want your lift pass confiscated.

💡 Community tip
Register for the "Furano Zone" system to legally access their designated, controlled off-piste gates. Culinary-wise, because Furano is in Hokkaido's agricultural heartland, the local food is spectacular: do not leave without dining at the small "izakayas" (taverns) in town and trying the local curry or Furano cheese.
