About the resort
🏔️ History
Garmisch-Partenkirchen hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics and is Germany's premier ski resort, located at the foot of the Zugspitze (2,962 m, Germany's highest peak). Its domain combines the classic Hausberg area with the high-altitude glacier sector.

Direct transfer available🚗 Main access: Garmisch-Partenkirchen is Germany's most famous ski destination and is excellently connected. From Munich (to the north), the drive is extremely straightforward: simply take the A95 autobahn south, which ends right on the outskirts of Garmisch, merging into the B2 federal road.
⚠️ Winter driving: Because you don't have to cross major alpine passes from Munich, the main road approach is usually free of severe snow issues. Nevertheless, winter tires are strictly mandatory in Germany under winter conditions. If arriving from Innsbruck (to the south), you will drive via Mittenwald (B2), a well-maintained but slightly steeper route.
Local Tips
💡 Local transit & guest card: When staying overnight in Garmisch, paying the tourist tax grants you a visitor card (Zugspitz Arena Bayern-Tirol Card). This card allows free use of the extensive local bus network ("Ortsbus"), perfect for getting from your hotel to the slopes without driving.
