About the resort
🏔️ History
Skiing in the area began in the 1950s and 60s with the first lifts in Meransen. However, the turning point came in 2011 when a connecting gondola was built between the Gitschberg and Jochtal sectors, creating the largest ski domain in the Eisacktal (Valle Isarco) valley.
☀️ Best days
Mid-January or March, ideally midweek. Because it's often considered an "insider tip," it rarely suffers from the extreme crowds of mega-resorts, but avoiding holidays ensures perfectly quiet slopes.

💡 Community tip
It’s a perfect, "stress-free" destination for families and intermediate skiers, featuring excellent kids' parks and wide cruisers. Remember that the two main sectors (Gitschberg and Jochtal) are connected by a panoramic gondola, requiring a short scenic transfer between the mountains.

🚗 Main access: Gitschberg Jochtal is located at the entrance to the Puster Valley (Pustertal) in South Tyrol. The fastest route is to take the A22 (Brenner) autobahn and use the "Bressanone/Val Pusteria" (Brixen/Pustertal) exit. From the exit, it's only about a 5 km drive on a very good road to the town of Rio di Pusteria (Mühlbach). From there, you drive up to the resort villages: Maranza (Meransen) or Valles (Vals).
⚠️ Winter driving: The ascent from Rio di Pusteria up to Maranza (about 8 km of switchbacks) or up to Valles gains significant elevation quickly. The road is very well-cleared, but winter tires are strictly legally required, and snow on the road is common during the coldest months.
Local Tips
💡 Maranza-Valles connection: The ski area is unified by the spectacular "Gaisjoch" connecting gondola. This means you do not need to take a bus or car to ski between the Gitschberg (Maranza) and Jochtal (Valles) sectors—they are perfectly linked on skis!
