About the resort
🏔️ History
Grandvalira is the largest ski area in the Pyrenees and the entire Iberian Peninsula, created by unifying six historic sectors of Andorra (Soldeu, El Tarter, Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Canillo, and Encamp). With over 200 km of linked slopes, it delivers a truly large-scale mountain experience.
☀️ Best days
Mid-January and March. Crowds are more manageable, accommodation prices drop compared to the February peak, and snow conditions remain excellent across most sectors.
🚫 Days to avoid
Christmas, New Year, and the February school holiday weeks, when Andorra is overwhelmed and access roads from both Spain and France grind to a halt. Long-weekend Saturdays are also best avoided.
💡 Community tip
Make use of the free shuttle bus connecting all sectors. Families and beginners should head to the Canillo and Encamp areas, which are quieter and more gently graded. And do not skip the tax-free shopping in Andorra la Vella—it is an irresistible bonus after a day on the slopes.

Direct transfer available🚗 Main access routes: Grandvalira dominates eastern Andorra and has multiple access points along the main CG-2 road. You can enter from Spain via the southern border (driving through Andorra la Vella towards Encamp, Canillo, El Tarter, or Soldeu) or from France via the northern border (arriving directly at Pas de la Casa or crossing the Envalira pass to Grau Roig).
⚠️ Traffic & Customs: On weekends and holidays, traffic entering or leaving Andorra can be very heavy due to customs checks. It is highly recommended to avoid peak hours. Winter tires or chains are legally required throughout the country during the winter season.
Local Tips
💡 Pas de la Casa or Soldeu?: Grandvalira is massive and your base matters. If you want wild après-ski, lower prices, and ski-in/ski-out access (amidst 70s block architecture), choose Pas de la Casa. If you prefer premium hotels, a relaxed vibe, and a prettier mountain village, choose Soldeu or El Tarter.
