About the resort

🏔️ History
Opened in 1955, Heavenly Mountain Resort straddles the California-Nevada state line, commanding the southern shore of spectacular Lake Tahoe. Its unique location allows skiers to glide down slopes overlooking the deep blue lake on one side and the arid Carson Valley desert on the other, making it one of the most photographed and visited ski areas in the U.S.

☀️ Best days
Clear, sunny weekdays provide the sharpest panoramic views of Lake Tahoe. Mornings following cold Sierra Nevada storms deliver exceptional dry powder conditions.

🚫 Days to avoid
Days with high-wind warnings. Due to the mountain's high elevation and exposure, key connector lifts between California and Nevada are prone to wind-holds, trapping skiers on one side.

💡 Community tip
Start your day at the Nevada-side bases (Stagecoach or Boulder) to avoid the heavy traffic and gondola queues at the California-side Heavenly Village. Advanced skiers should test their legs on the legendary Gunbarrel bump run.

🚗 Mountain Pass Access: Access from California is via US-50 East over Echo Summit (7,382 ft / 2,250 m), which is subject to temporary closures for avalanche control during big winter storms. From Reno, take NV-50 over Spooner Summit.

Local Tips

💡 Start in Nevada on weekends: Uploading at Stagecoach or Boulder (Nevada side) avoids the heavy traffic congestion and main gondola bottlenecks at Heavenly Village in California during busy weekends.
