About the resort
🏔️ History
Kanin, rising above Bovec, is Slovenia's only ski resort exceeding 2,000 meters in elevation (reaching 2,300m). In 2009–2010, it merged with Italy's Sella Nevea, creating a unique cross-border alpine domain nestled in the high limestone crags of the Triglav National Park. The Slovenian sector has recently faced infrastructure challenges and temporary lift closures for maintenance.
☀️ Best days
Sunny late-winter and spring days (March/April). The high altitude guarantees excellent natural snow depth and quality until late spring. On clear days, you can spot the Adriatic Sea from the Prestreljenik rock window, making the mountain scenery simply breath-taking.
🚫 Days to avoid
High-wind or blizzard days. The resort is highly exposed, and strong northern winds often force the closure of the upper lifts. *Note: The Slovenian access lift has faced closures for maintenance; always check the current lift status before planning your route to the mountain.*
💡 Community tip
For freeriders, the Italian side descending into Sella Nevea offers some of the best off-piste powder bowls in the region. Stop for a drink at the Prestreljenik restaurant (Slovenia's highest restaurant) and sample the local "frika" omelette in Bovec at Gostilna Sovdat.

No direct transfer🚗 Access: Due to the indefinite closure of the Bovec circular cableway on the Slovenian side (lack of operating permit), the ski area is currently only accessible from the Italian side (Sella Nevea). Do not attempt to access the slopes from Bovec.
Local Tips
💡 Tip: Prioritize stable, clear days. Kanin is high and exposed; marginal weather can mean closed lifts or poor visibility.
