About the resort
🏔️ History
La Clusaz is one of the most authentic and traditional Alpine villages in the French Haute-Savoie. With historic charm dating back centuries before the invention of modern skiing, it has transformed into a paradise for freeride and family skiing while keeping its traditional wooden chalets and local farms completely intact.
☀️ Best days
Mid-winter days after a heavy snowfall. Thanks to its location near the Aravis Massif, La Clusaz acts as a funnel for storms, receiving snow amounts far above the average for its altitude. Its forested areas, particularly in the Balme sector, are legendary among powder hounds.
🚫 Days to avoid
Late spring during unusually warm weeks. Its maximum altitude is not excessively high (around 2,600 m at Balme, but the base is at 1,040 m), meaning the snow at lower elevations can quickly turn slushy or sparse during the warmest days of April.
💡 Community tip
If you are an advanced skier, the La Balme sector is an absolute must-visit: it is a massive natural playground famous worldwide. After skiing, make sure to taste the authentic Reblochon cheese—which originates precisely from this area—at any of the local farms or restaurants.

Direct transfer available🚗 Main access: From Annecy (or Geneva/Lyon via the A41 motorway), take exit 17 (Annecy Nord) and follow the D909 road towards Thônes / Aravis. The road leads directly into La Clusaz.
⚠️ Chains and traffic: The access road (D909) does not have extremely difficult mountain passes before reaching the village, but winter tires or snow chains are legally required (Loi Montagne) during winter. On sunny weekends, expect traffic leaving Annecy.
Local Tips
💡 Free Skibus: Once in La Clusaz, leave your car parked. The resort has an excellent "Skibus" network that links the village with the different ski sectors (Balme, L'Etale, Manigod, and the neighboring resort of Le Grand Bornand). The service is free if you have a ski pass or a Guest Card (Carte d'Hôte).
