About the resort
🏔️ History
La Molina is Spain's oldest ski resort. The country's very first commercial ski lift was installed here in 1943. Located in the Catalan Pyrenees (Cerdanya), it has been the cradle of Spanish skiing, hosting World Cup events and serving as a historic benchmark for winter sports nationwide.
☀️ Best days
February. It is a very sunny resort, so visiting during the coldest month ensures good snow quality while allowing you to enjoy the wonderful views over the Cerdanya valley without the heat spoiling the pistes.
🚫 Days to avoid
Sunny weekends in January or February. Being just over an hour and a half from Barcelona, it can suffer from extreme overcrowding by day-trippers, resulting in massive queues at the base lifts.
💡 Community tip
This resort is ideal for beginners and families, thanks to its gentle, tree-lined slopes in the lower sections. If you are an advanced skier, make sure to buy the "Alp 2500" joint lift pass. This connects La Molina with neighboring Masella, exponentially increasing the available red/black runs and vertical drop.
