🏔️ History
Opened in 1968 in the Sierra de Ayllón (Segovia), La Pinilla is considered the most genuinely "alpine" ski resort in Spain's Sistema Central. Unlike the highly commercialized resorts closer to Madrid, La Pinilla is nestled in a narrow, deeply forested valley, giving it an authentic mountain atmosphere.

Sunny weekdays shortly after a significant snowfall (typically arriving from Atlantic storm fronts). Its dense forest surroundings protect it from heavy winds, helping the snow stay fresh among the pine trees.
🚫 Days to avoid
Bluebird weekends following dry spells. Its close proximity to Madrid (just over an hour away via the A-1 highway) means thousands of city dwellers arrive all at once, collapsing the access roads, ticket windows, and the lift network.
💡 Community tip
This resort boasts the most challenging and exciting terrain in the central Iberian Peninsula. The "Pico del Lobo" sector offers steep pitches and technical red runs beloved by advanced skiers. Outside the winter season, it transforms into one of the premier Downhill Bike Parks in Spain.

🚗 Main access: La Pinilla is located in the Sierra de Ayllón (Segovia) and is a classic destination for skiers from Madrid. From the capital, the route is very direct: take the A-1 (Autovía del Norte) motorway to exit 103 (N-110 towards Soria/Riaza). After a few kilometers on the N-110, turn off towards Cerezo de Arriba and follow the signs straight up to the resort (about 10 km of mountain road).
⚠️ Winter driving: The A-1 motorway can occasionally experience delays or closures due to snow at the Somosierra pass. The final local road from Cerezo de Arriba to the slopes is usually kept clear, but carrying snow chains in winter is recommended due to frequent frost.

💡 Climate and Forests: La Pinilla stands out for being sheltered from the wind thanks to its funnel-shaped valley location. Furthermore, it boasts beautiful slopes that run through dense pine forests in its mid and lower sections. Après-ski dining in the nearby town of Riaza (famous for its roast lamb) is a classic way to end the day.
