About the resort
🏔️ History
Created in 1961 to save the local economy (following agricultural and mining decline), La Plagne revolutionized resort design with its integrated, ski-in/ski-out architecture. It gained global fame hosting events for the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics. In 2003, the double-decker Vanoise Express linked it to Les Arcs, forming the colossal "Paradiski" domain.
☀️ Best days
January offers crisp, cold snow, excellent powder, and wonderfully empty slopes. Saturdays (the main transfer day) are surprisingly quiet and excellent for skiing.
🚫 Days to avoid
The massive French and European school holiday weeks in February, alongside Christmas. Queues at major lifts and central bottlenecks can be incredibly frustrating.
💡 Community tip
Spanning 11 distinct villages, research carefully before booking (some are purpose-built, others traditional). It’s a beginner's paradise, but central hubs get crowded mid-morning. Eat lunch early (before 12:00) or late (after 14:00) to enjoy wide-open pistes while everyone else is dining. Better yet, pack a baguette and eat on the chairlift!

Aime-La Plagne Station
Direct transfer available🚗 Main access: Take the A43 motorway to Albertville, then follow the RN90 dual carriageway towards Moûtiers and Aime. At Aime, take the D221 road which winds up to the different villages of La Plagne (Plagne Centre, Aime 2000, Plagne Villages, etc.).
⚠️ Chains and traffic: The 18 km climb from Aime is winding (featuring the famous "21 bends of La Plagne"). Winter tires or snow chains are legally required. During peak season, especially on changeover Saturdays, traffic in the Tarentaise valley is often heavy; allow extra travel time.
Local Tips
💡 Free inter-resort shuttles: Once in La Plagne, leave your car parked. The resort features an excellent free transport network, including pedestrian gondolas (like the Télémétro between Plagne Centre and Aime 2000) and shuttle buses connecting all the altitude villages from 8:00 AM to midnight.
