About the resort

🏔️ History
Founded in the 1930s through the efforts of locals and the Geneva Ski Club, Les Carroz is a pioneer of French winter sports. With its timeless charm, it sits on a sunny plateau and serves as one of the most beautiful gateways to the vast Grand Massif domain (alongside Flaine, Samoëns, and Morillon).

☀️ Best days
March is often idyllic, featuring sunny days that highlight the warm village architecture, while the connected higher altitudes of the Grand Massif ensure strong snow cover.

🚫 Days to avoid
School holidays and weekends. Its quick, easy access from the motorway and Geneva airport makes it a hugely popular choice for day-trippers and weekenders.

💡 Community tip
Unlike its neighbor Flaine, Les Carroz retains a traditional, wooded chalet style, making it perfect for couples and families. Its local pistes run through the trees, providing great visibility on snowy days. To reach the high-altitude bowls of Flaine quickly, jump on the efficient Kédeuze gondola first thing in the morning.

🚗 Main access: It is one of the quickest and easiest access routes in the French Alps. Take the A40 motorway (the "Autoroute Blanche") and exit at junction 19 (Cluses Centre / Flaine - Les Carroz). From there, it's just a 15 km drive up a wide, well-maintained mountain road to reach the village.

⚠️ Chains and traffic: Even though the road is good, you are in the mountains: from November 1st to March 31st, it is legally required to have winter tires or carry snow chains in your vehicle.

Local Tips

💡 Free Skibuses: Once you're settled in your accommodation, make use of the free "Skibus". The village is brilliantly served by several free bus routes that pick you up near your stay and drop you directly at the base of the main gondola (La Kédeuze).
