About the resort
🏔️ History
Les Deux Alpes was created just after World War II and is one of France's pioneering ski resorts. It became world-famous for its massive skiable glacier, which allowed for summer skiing for decades, and for being a prime gathering spot for European snowboard and freestyle culture since the 90s.
☀️ Best days
Sunny spring days. The resort's high altitude (reaching 3,600 m on the glacier) guarantees exceptional snow quality at the top even when the lower valleys begin to melt. Furthermore, in spring, the snowpark is usually at its peak, attracting riders from all over the world.
🚫 Days to avoid
Days with severe storms and poor visibility. Above 3,000 meters, the glacier has no visual references or trees, making "whiteout" conditions extremely disorienting. Moreover, high winds often force the closure of the Jandri Express, the main access lift.
💡 Community tip
The layout of Les Deux Alpes is quite unique: the easiest slopes are high up on the glacier, while the steepest and hardest ones lead down to the village. If you are a beginner, take the gondola to get back down at the end of the day; do not try to ski down to the base, as the return runs get very icy and bumped up by late afternoon.

🚗 Main access: Drive via the A480 motorway passing Grenoble, join the N85 (towards Vizille/Stations de l'Oisans), and then follow the D1091 along the Romanche valley. At the Chambon dam (Lac du Chambon), turn right onto the D213 which climbs directly up to Les Deux Alpes.
⚠️ Chains and traffic: The ascent from the lake features steep switchbacks. It is a legal requirement to use winter tires or carry snow chains during the winter season. Expect heavy traffic around Grenoble and the Romanche valley on Saturdays.
Local Tips
💡 Free Resort Shuttles: Once parked, you won't need your car. The resort runs several free shuttle bus lines that travel up and down the length of the entire village (from Mont de Lans to the Jandri Express gondola base) continuously throughout the day.
