About the resort

🏔️ History
Manzaneda is the only ski resort in Galicia (northwestern Spain). Located in the Ourense Central Massif, it was established in the 1970s and has played a key role in bringing winter sports to Galicians and visitors from northern Portugal. It is renowned for its lush natural surroundings and dense pine forests.

☀️ Best days
Any day following a strong Atlantic winter storm. Due to its modest altitude (the base is at 1,500m) and heavy oceanic influence, it is crucial to visit right after a snowfall when temperatures remain low.

🚫 Days to avoid
Sunny weekends. Being the only ski resort in a highly populated region (and very popular with Portuguese visitors), the access roads easily become congested, and lift lines can be extremely long.

💡 Community tip
Manzaneda is perfect for beginners and families, offering gentle, tree-lined slopes. Its snowmaking network is vital for its operation; trust the snow cannons if it's cold. After skiing, make sure to indulge in the spectacular Galician mountain gastronomy (traditional stew or octopus are a must!).

🚗 Main access: Manzaneda is the only ski resort in Galicia, located in the province of Ourense. From the city of Ourense, take the winding OU-536 road towards A Pobra de Trives (a slow but scenic route through the Ribeira Sacra region). Upon reaching A Pobra de Trives, follow the signs along local roads (OU-0703) that climb directly to the resort complex at around 1,500m altitude.

⚠️ Winter driving: Although the altitudes aren't extreme, the winter Atlantic climate can bring heavy snow that freezes over the road quickly. The final 20 km of local roads are narrow and winding; carrying snow chains is highly recommended.

Local Tips

💡 An Atlantic Resort: Manzaneda is not the most snow-sure resort in Spain due to its moderate altitude and damp climate, but it compensates by being an all-terrain mountain resort (adventure park, thermal pool, zip line). If snow is lacking, the surrounding Ribeira Sacra region is a world-class tourist destination.
