About the resort

🏔️ History
Opened in 1967 on the northern slopes of the Tosa mountain (Catalan Pyrenees), Masella is colloquially known as the "balcony of Cerdanya". Its strict north-facing orientation and the dense pine forest covering 80% of its runs make it one of the best-preserved ski environments in the Pyrenees.

☀️ Best days
Any sunny day in January or February. Because the majority of its runs cut through dense black pine forests, the snow remains exceptionally loose and cold ("powder snow") even weeks after a storm.

🚫 Days to avoid
Weekends during the peak season (January and February). Due to its close proximity to Barcelona (just 1h 45m away), the main parking area at Pla de Masella can fill up completely before 9:00 AM.

💡 Community tip
Masella consistently holds the record for the longest ski season in the Pyrenees (often opening in November and closing in May). It also offers the largest night skiing operation in the Pyrenees. For advanced skiers, "Coma Pregona" and "Cap del Bosc" are spectacular red runs with thrilling pitches through the trees.
