About the resort
🏔️ History
Conceived in the 1920s by Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, Megève was built to be the French answer to Switzerland's exclusive St. Moritz. Its old town, complete with cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages, preserves the essence of the French "art de vivre," making Megève a world-famous luxury destination within the massive Evasion Mont-Blanc ski area.
☀️ Best days
Clear days in January. Megève offers some of the best views of Mont Blanc in the entire Alps. Because many of its slopes are below the tree line, sunny mid-winter days offer peaceful, wind-protected skiing through picture-postcard landscapes of traditional chalets and forests.
🚫 Days to avoid
Warm, rainy weeks towards the end of the season. Megève has a relatively low altitude (the village is at 1,100 m and the highest point is 2,350 m). As spring progresses and temperatures rise, snow at lower elevations can quickly become heavy slush or disappear altogether.
💡 Community tip
The slopes in the Mont d'Arbois sector are fantastic for relaxed, sunny skiing with direct views of Mont Blanc. If you are looking for fewer crowds, head over to the La Giettaz or Rochebrune sectors. And of course, the skiing here is only half the experience; make sure to save time for a long lunch at one of its renowned on-mountain gastronomic restaurants.

🚗 Main access: Megève is very easy to access. Take the A40 motorway (the "Autoroute Blanche") and take exit 20 (Sallanches). From there, follow the D1205 and then the D1212 road directly up to Megève. The drive from the motorway exit takes only about 20-25 minutes.
⚠️ Chains and traffic: The main road is wide, but winter equipment (snow chains or winter tires) is legally required from November 1st to March 31st. Try to avoid going through the center of Sallanches during rush hour to dodge traffic jams.
Local Tips
💡 Free Meg-buses: Once you've parked, use the free Megève shuttle buses ("Meg-bus"). They connect the pedestrian center to all the main ski areas (Mont d'Arbois, Rochebrune, Jaillet) regularly throughout the day.
