About the resort

🏔️ History
Montriond evolved from a serene Haute-Savoie hamlet, famous for its stunning lake, into a strategic gateway for the immense Portes du Soleil domain. It shares its peaks with Morzine and Avoriaz, providing fast, less-congested access over the border to the Swiss side (Les Crosets).

☀️ Best days
Mid-week in January. It’s one of the area's best-kept secrets; parking here and taking the Ardent gondola drops you into the snowiest core of the resort without the big-town stress.

🚫 Days to avoid
Peak holidays when all Morzine-based skiers migrate up to Avoriaz via the Montriond sector, which can cause early morning bottlenecks at the Ardent lift.

💡 Community tip
Use Montriond as your "secret base." The Ardent lift whisks you straight up to Les Lindarets (the famous "goat village"), a gastronomic paradise packed with incredible mountain restaurants. From there, it’s the quickest route to cross the border and ski in Switzerland before lunch.

🚗 Main access: If driving from Switzerland (Geneva), head towards Thonon-les-Bains and follow the D902 through the Vallée d'Aulps to Montriond. If coming from the south on the A40 motorway, exit at Cluses, drive up through Les Gets and Morzine until you reach Montriond, just a few minutes past Morzine.

⚠️ Chains and traffic: Under the Loi Montagne (Nov 1st to Mar 31st), winter tires or chains are mandatory. Access roads are wide and well-cleared, but can be slippery during fresh snowfalls.

Local Tips

💡 Local Shuttles & Lac de Montriond: Montriond runs an excellent free shuttle bus service linking the village, the stunning Lake Montriond, and the Ardent gondola. Furthermore, it's very easy to pop over to the center of neighboring Morzine by bus.
