About the resort
🏔️ History
Long before skiing, Morzine was a thriving alpine town famous for slate mining. In 1934, it installed its first cable car, carefully maintaining its warm, wooden-chalet aesthetic as it grew into the bustling epicenter of the gigantic French-Swiss Portes du Soleil domain.
☀️ Best days
Mid-January to early February. You'll enjoy the undeniable charm of a snow-covered town with temperatures low enough to preserve the winter cover at lower altitudes.
🚫 Days to avoid
The British February half-term. Morzine is enormously popular with UK skiers, and during this week, lifts, slopes, and bars can become overwhelmingly busy.
💡 Community tip
It's the perfect town for those seeking a true "alpine atmosphere" and great nightlife. If snow is sparse on Morzine's lower slopes, simply take the gondola up to neighboring Avoriaz (higher and fully connected). The quality and abundance of mountain restaurants here is exceptional.

Direct transfer available🚗 Main access: Morzine is very easy to drive to. From the north or Switzerland (Geneva), head to Thonon-les-Bains and follow the D902 road up through the scenic Vallée d'Aulps. From the south on the A40 motorway, take exit 18 (Cluses) and drive up the mountain, passing through Les Gets before arriving in Morzine.
⚠️ Chains and traffic: At a moderate altitude (1000m), the road is usually clear, but the Loi Montagne dictates that winter equipment (chains or snow tires) is mandatory from Nov 1st to Mar 31st. Watch out for traffic jams in Cluses on winter Saturdays.
Local Tips
💡 Local Shuttles & Prodains Express: Morzine boasts excellent free shuttles (Lines A, D, E, M...) to take you to the Pléney (towards Les Gets) or Super Morzine (towards Avoriaz) lifts. Most notably, Line A takes you to the Prodains Express in 15 minutes, which is the fast cable car straight up to Avoriaz.
