🏔️ History
Nevados de Chillán is one of South America's most unique ski destinations, located in the Ñuble Region at 1,800 m base and up to 2,700 m, on the Chillán volcano massif. Its greatest draw is not just skiing: the resort integrates ski slopes with natural volcanic thermal springs, a spa and native forests of ñirres and araucarias. It features "Las Tres Marías", considered South America's longest ski run at 13 km. The active volcano adds a unique atmosphere and a touch of adventure to every visit.
☀️ Best days
July and August deliver the best snow quality. The resort enjoys long seasons thanks to its southern latitude and receives heavy snowfall from polar fronts. Days after southwest storms offer excellent powder conditions in the upper sector. Early mornings, before the sun softens the lower slopes, deliver the best piste conditions.
🚫 Days to avoid
The volcano can register elevated gas and ash activity in sporadic episodes, temporarily closing the resort. Always check SERNAGEOMIN status before travelling. July weekends with good weather attract large crowds from Chillán and Concepción. Access can be complicated during intense snowstorms.
💡 Community tip
Combining skiing with the thermal baths is the essence of Nevados de Chillán: after skiing, a few hours in the open-air thermal pools with mountain views is unbeatable. The Las Tres Marías run is accessible for intermediate skiers; if snow cover allows, plan the full descent from the top. Book accommodation at the resort directly — external options are limited in winter.
