About the resort

🏔️ History
Located in the far north of Andorra and widely known as "The Fridge", Ordino Arcalís was founded in 1983 with a strict policy of zero trackside real estate to preserve its wild environment. Today, it is the undisputed freeride mecca of the Pyrenees and a regular stop on the prestigious Freeride World Tour (FWT).

☀️ Best days
Any day following a storm system driven by north/northwest winds. Thanks to its unique horseshoe-shaped topography and 100% north-facing slopes, it catches weather fronts that dump deep, dry powder, often while the rest of Andorra remains dry.

🚫 Days to avoid
High-wind storm days. Because it is highly exposed at a high altitude, storms can be brutal, forcing the closure of upper-mountain lifts and severely limiting skiable terrain at the base.

💡 Community tip
Arcalís is not the place to go if you're looking for long, flat cruising pistes; it is built for exploring multiple valleys and off-piste couloirs. The "La Coma" area is spectacular. You don't even need to hike much: dropping off the Creussans chairlift gives you immediate access to legendary, wild freeride descents.

🚗 Access by road: To reach Ordino Arcalís by car, follow the main highways leading from the closest gateway (Andorra-La Seu d'Urgell Airport). The final mountain ascent is well maintained, but expect sharp hairpins and typical mountain gradients of Andorra.

⚠️ Snow chains: During the winter months, carrying snow chains in your vehicle or fitting certified winter tires is a legal requirement on the roads of Andorra.

Local Tips

💡 Local tip: Try to arrive before 8:30 AM on powder Saturdays to avoid traffic queues on the final valley roads and secure a parking spot closest to the primary lifts.
