About the resort

🏔️ History
Characterized by its distinct "panettone" (rounded) shape peaking at 2,275m, Kronplatz boasts one of the most modern and efficient lift systems in Europe. The summit features architectural marvels like the Messner Mountain Museum (designed by Zaha Hadid) and the LUMEN photography museum.

☀️ Best days
Mid-January to late February. Although temperatures can be low, this period guarantees the crisp, impeccably groomed snow conditions the resort is famous for.

🚫 Days to avoid
Weekends and winter school holidays. Because it is highly accessible, it gets extremely busy with regional day-trippers.

💡 Community tip
Since most gondolas converge at the summit, the top area can feel crowded. Once there, disperse quickly to the peripheral sectors like San Vigilio or Percha. Percha (Perca) also features a brilliant direct train-to-gondola connection.

🚗 Access by road: To reach Plan de Corones / Kronplatz by car, follow the main highways leading from the closest gateway (Innsbruck Airport). The final mountain ascent is well maintained, but expect sharp hairpins and typical mountain gradients of Italy.

⚠️ Snow chains: During the winter months, carrying snow chains in your vehicle or fitting certified winter tires is a legal requirement on the roads of Italy.

Local Tips

💡 Local tip: Try to arrive before 8:30 AM on powder Saturdays to avoid traffic queues on the final valley roads and secure a parking spot closest to the primary lifts.
