About the resort

🏔️ History
Opened in 1973, Port del Comte is the quintessential pre-Pyrenees Catalan resort. It was developed as a nearby, family-friendly alternative to the larger resorts in Andorra and the Central Pyrenees, taking advantage of its strategic location entirely surrounded by dense black pine forests.

☀️ Best days
Mid-week in the depths of winter, especially after a storm from the south or east (which brings the most snow here). Being sheltered by trees, wind is rarely an issue.

🚫 Days to avoid
Sunny weekends immediately following a heavy snowfall. Because it is the closest ski resort to major cities like Barcelona, the access roads and car parks fill up incredibly fast.

💡 Community tip
It's an absolute treasure for families and beginners learning to ski. Being nestled in the forest gives it a uniquely cozy charm. However, its exposure means snow quality can degrade quickly late in the season; target January and February. Arrive early to secure parking near the main base facilities.

🚗 Access by road: To reach Port del Comte by car, follow the main highways leading from the closest gateway (Andorra-La Seu d'Urgell Airport). The final mountain ascent is well maintained, but expect sharp hairpins and typical mountain gradients of Spain.

⚠️ Snow chains: During the winter months, carrying snow chains in your vehicle or fitting certified winter tires is a legal requirement on the roads of Spain.

Local Tips

💡 Local tip: Try to arrive before 8:30 AM on powder Saturdays to avoid traffic queues on the final valley roads and secure a parking spot closest to the primary lifts.
