About the resort
🏔️ History
A pioneer destination in the Dolomites, San Martino di Castrozza was already attracting English and German nobles and alpinists in the 19th century. Guarded by the majestic, jagged spires of the Pale di San Martino range, the resort blends historic allure with the dramatic high-mountain panoramas of Passo Rolle.
☀️ Best days
January for untouched powder, or late February to witness the breathtaking "Enrosadira" (the phenomenon where the peaks turn bright pink/red at sunset) in milder weather.
🚫 Days to avoid
Christmas and the Italian "settimane bianche" (white weeks) in February. Passo Rolle in particular can occasionally be cut off after massive snowstorms due to avalanche risk on the mountain pass road.
💡 Community tip
While San Martino offers long, sunny pistes through the trees, Passo Rolle (at 1,980m) is the absolute snow guarantee—often open from November to April. If conditions get slushy below, head straight to Rolle. Also, the Tognola Uno run is frequently ranked as one of the most beautiful pistes in the entire Dolomites. Don't miss it!
