🏔️ History
Developed in the 1970s in the Škofja Loka hills, Stari Vrh is a classic, family-run resort. Its proximity to Ljubljana and Kranj makes it a favorite playground for local skiers seeking a quick getaway, offering scenic views and a community-centered atmosphere.
☀️ Best days
Crisp, cold winter afternoons leading into the night session. Stari Vrh is famous for its night skiing under bright floodlights, drawing locals straight from the office. The slopes offer a surprisingly varied and engaging layout.
🚫 Days to avoid
Sunny, warm spring days, as the low maximum altitude (1,217m) causes the snow to soften and turn to slush by midday. Busy weekends in January when local ski schools fill the lower drag lifts should also be bypassed.
💡 Community tip
Ski here in February to ride the "Valentine's slope," named after the nearby St. Valentine's church. For a meal, the guesthouse at the top station serves superb local dishes from the Škofja Loka hills with broad valley views.
