About the resort
🏔️ History
Originally opened in 1961 as Tod Mountain, the resort was rebranded as Sun Peaks in 1993 following significant international investment. It has grown to become Canada's second-largest ski area after Whistler Blackcomb. It is known for its picturesque, Tyrolean-style pedestrian village and its unique layout spanning three distinct peaks (Tod, Sundance, and Morrisey).

Sunny mid-week days in January and February deliver light, dry BC powder. Mornings on Tod Mountain are ideal for long, sweeping runs.
🚫 Days to avoid
Family Day weekend in February and peak holiday periods, when lift lines at the main village base experience minor bottlenecks.
💡 Community tip
Explore Mount Morrisey in the morning for excellent intermediate cruisers and uncrowded glades. Keep an eye out for Canadian Olympic champion Nancy Greene, who often hosts guided ski runs on weekends.

🚗 Road access: Drive North from Kamloops on the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 5) for 17 miles (28 km), turn right at Heffley Creek onto Tod Mountain Road, and follow it for 19 miles (31 km) to the resort. The road is paved and well-maintained but winding; winter tires are required.

💡 Car-free pedestrian village: Sun Peaks features a ski-in, ski-out pedestrian village. Once you park your car at your lodging, you will not need to drive at all during your stay.
