About the resort
🏔️ History
Formerly known as the "Espace Killy" (honoring the French triple Olympic champion Jean-Claude Killy), this colossal domain links the resorts of Tignes and Val d'Isère. It was developed with the vision of creating one of the largest, highest, and most snow-sure interconnected ski areas in the world.
☀️ Best days
April. Thanks to its two glaciers (Grande Motte in Tignes and Pissaillas in Val d'Isère) and the fact that 60% of its pistes are above 2,200m, it is one of the few places in Europe where spring skiing still feels like deep winter.
🚫 Days to avoid
The British February half-term weeks. Both resorts are massively popular with UK skiers, which drives prices up and creates significant queues at major bottleneck lifts.
💡 Community tip
This area is an absolute paradise for advanced and expert skiers but can be intimidating (and expensive) for total beginners. If you stay in Tignes, you get quicker, cheaper access to high-altitude skiing. If you prefer traditional chalets, luxury, and a wild après-ski scene (including the original Folie Douce), choose Val d'Isère.

🚗 Access by road: To reach Tignes – Val d’Isère by car, follow the main highways leading from the closest gateway (Turin Airport). The final mountain ascent is well maintained, but expect sharp hairpins and typical mountain gradients of France.
⚠️ Snow chains: During the winter months, carrying snow chains in your vehicle or fitting certified winter tires is a legal requirement on the roads of France.
Local Tips
💡 Local tip: Try to arrive before 8:30 AM on powder Saturdays to avoid traffic queues on the final valley roads and secure a parking spot closest to the primary lifts.
