About the resort

🏔️ History
Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, located in central Hokkaido, is one of Japan's most visually striking and luxurious resort complexes. It is instantly recognizable by its massive, towering twin skyscraper hotels rising unexpectedly from the wild forest. Built during the Japanese economic bubble of the 1980s, Tomamu has been successfully revitalized into a premium destination, famous for its high-end family facilities, striking architecture, and massive indoor wave pool.

☀️ Best days
Bitterly cold, dry days in mid-winter. The climate in Tomamu gets exceptionally cold (frequently dropping below -20°C), which creates an ultra-dry, feather-light powder. It is a fantastic place to enjoy the crisp Hokkaido sun once the major storms pass.

🚫 Days to avoid
The New Year period and public holiday weekends. Because it is operated by the luxury Hoshino brand and features a Club Med, the hotels book up rapidly with affluent families and tourists, leaving facilities, lifts, and restaurants extremely busy.

💡 Community tip
Tomamu has one of the most progressive off-piste policies in Japan, operating an extensive "powder release area" where tree skiing is actively permitted and regulated. If you need a day off the slopes, the resort is packed with unique amenities: check out the "Ice Village" (a pop-up town made entirely of ice, complete with an ice bar) or relax in the massive indoor Mina-Mina wave pool.
