About the resort

🏔️ History
Located in the Swiss canton of Valais, Verbier grew from a simple high-alpine pasture village in the 1940s into the beating heart of "Les 4 Vallées", Switzerland’s largest linked ski area (over 400 km of pistes). It is globally renowned for its hardcore freeride culture, hosting the legendary Freeride World Tour finals on the fearsome Bec des Rosses.

☀️ Best days
Mid-January to early March. Because the ski area stretches up to 3,330 m (Mont-Fort), the snow stays light and chalky for extended periods, offering world-class freeride conditions.

🚫 Days to avoid
The New Year week and mid-February. Verbier is a magnet for an affluent, international crowd, leading to massive bottlenecks on the access roads, at the main Medran gondola, and fully booked mountain restaurants.

💡 Community tip
To bypass the morning rush in the village, take the gondola up directly from Le Châble down in the valley. Verbier is unmatched in Europe for its "itinerary" runs (yellow-marked, avalanche-controlled, but un-groomed off-piste routes). Make sure to experience the legendary après-ski at Farinet or grab a drink at Le Rouge as the sun sets.

🚗 Access by road: To reach Verbier / 4 Vallées by car, follow the main highways leading from the closest gateway (Geneva Cointrin Airport). The final mountain ascent is well maintained, but expect sharp hairpins and typical mountain gradients of Switzerland.

⚠️ Snow chains: During the winter months, carrying snow chains in your vehicle or fitting certified winter tires is a legal requirement on the roads of Switzerland.

Local Tips

💡 Local tip: Try to arrive before 8:30 AM on powder Saturdays to avoid traffic queues on the final valley roads and secure a parking spot closest to the primary lifts.
