About the resort

🏔️ History
Established in 1964, Vogel sits on a high plateau inside Triglav National Park, directly above Lake Bohinj. It is celebrated for preserving a raw, old-school high-mountain atmosphere, steering clear of heavy commercialization to retain its historic alpine charm. The main cable car system was modernized in 2001, providing access to the roadless plateau.

☀️ Best days
Crisp, sunny days following a fresh dump of snow. Vogel relies entirely on natural snow, meaning the powder quality is exceptional. The panoramic views over frozen Lake Bohinj and Mt. Triglav (Slovenia's highest peak) are unmatched and offer an unforgettable skiing experience.

🚫 Days to avoid
Foggy or high-wind days, as the exposed plateau loses all visibility due to the lack of trees at high altitude, and lifts may close. During peak holidays and sunny weekends, the single access gondola from the lake level can develop significant queues.

💡 Community tip
You must ski the Žagarjev graben run—at 7.5 km, it is the longest continuous descent in Slovenia, winding from the Šija peak all the way down to the lake. Head to the Merjasec Hut near the top station for outstanding local winter stews, or visit Štrud'l in the valley for traditional food.

Local Tips

💡 Tip: Vogel does not rely on snowmaking because of its protected setting; prioritize recent natural snow and check operation before going up.
