About the resort
🏔️ History
Zermatt transformed from a modest farming village into a world-renowned destination following the first ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. Today, it remains a car-free village that perfectly balances the rustic charm of ancient barns with modern luxury and Europe's highest skiable domain.
☀️ Best days
Late January and the entirety of April. Thanks to its extreme altitude, snow remains in excellent condition well into spring, offering warmer, longer days and a quieter village atmosphere.
🚫 Days to avoid
The Christmas/New Year peak and the February/March school holiday weeks. Occupancy hits its maximum and prices (already famously high) peak during these periods.
💡 Community tip
Cross-border skiing into Cervinia (Italy) is a must-do, but always watch the wind warnings—if the high-altitude links close, you could get stranded in the wrong country! While not ideal for absolute beginners, it is an absolute paradise for intermediate to advanced skiers.
